Checker Cab
Checker Cab has been in business since 1921 and has operated out of its Trumbull facility since the early 1930s. It is the largest cab company in Michigan with approximately 525 cabs in the fleet. Due to its size, Checker is the only cab company capable of servicing all of Detroit's 147 square miles.
The fleet consists of late model General Motors and Ford vehicles all city inspected and approved to operate as taxicabs. Checker was the first to add seven-passenger minivans to diversify the fleet and accommodate groups with four to seven passengers. Each cab is equipped with a two-way radio and state-of-the-art computer dispatch system.
Checker's Communication Center averages approximately 10,000-15,000 calls per day. The center is staffed and open 24-hours a day, seven days a week including all holidays. It is equipped with one of the industry's most technologically advanced software packages available to help service customers more efficiently.
